Harvested high in the Smoky Mountains during the fleeting midsummer bloom, our award winning Sourwood Honey is liquid gold—smooth, buttery, and kissed with notes of caramel and spice. Rare, pure, and impossibly elegant, it’s the taste of Appalachian summer in its most perfect form. Sourwood honey is one of the most prized and distinctive honeys in the United States, especially celebrated in the Southern Appalachian region.

Flavor Profile:
Sourwood honey is renowned for its exceptionally smooth, buttery sweetness with subtle spice and caramel notes. Often described as having hints of anise, maple, and warm brown sugar, with a clean, lingering finish. Unlike the name might suggest, it has no sour taste. Its name comes from the tart flavor of the tree’s leaves, not the honey.

Rarity & Prestige:
Because sourwood trees (Oxydendrum arboreum) bloom for such a short period, and only in Southern mountain regions, true sourwood honey is relatively rare. Weather conditions can greatly affect the harvest, making good years highly celebrated among beekeepers and honey enthusiasts.

Pairings & Uses:
If you're from The South, its refined flavor makes it perfect for drizzling over biscuits, flapjacks or grits. If you’re a Bless-Your-Heart Yankee, drizzle our honey onto scones or crepes, soft cheeses, and fresh fruit. It also pairs beautifully with Pappy Van Winkle (any age), tea, and artisanal breads.

Purchase limit of four (4) jars per order.
